How does the Youth Card work?

Youth Card is an internet-based platform that allows businesses to share opportunities and/or discounts with young people. As a Youth Card partner, you will use the Youth Card portal to add and manage the opportunities and/or discounts you wish to offer. Once you add an opportunity or discount using the portal, Youth Card holders can access it through the Youth Card app. You can track and monitor how many Youth Card holders are accessing your opportunities and/or discounts using the portal. For educators considering integrating their MIS with Youth Card

How would your students benefit?

Integrating your school/college/university’s MIS with Speakers for Schools will mean that more students from your school will benefit from Youth Card, regardless of their background, location or personal connections.

On-boarding all your students in a controlled and secure way will also mean that once the MIS integration is completed, they will each be able to easily access free work experience, mentoring, career advice and inspiring broadcasts and exclusive discounts on youth-friendly consumer brands.

Crucially, it will also enable our charity to offer additional levels of support to your students with the highest need.

How would your students’ parents benefit?

We know that parents want the best for their children, but they don’t always have the time, means or connections to help their child research future careers and local opportunities can be very limited.

Integrating your school/college/university’s MIS with Speakers for Schools means young people will have a greater number of local and national opportunities made available to them at no cost to parents and with no extra hassle for parents.

How would your school/college/university benefit?

Integrating your school/college/university’s MIS with Speakers for Schools will allow every single one of your students to go through the fastest, easiest and most efficient on-boarding process possible, so that they can start to enjoy all the benefits of Youth Card sooner.

This means you can be sure of a controlled roll out where no-one is left behind and every student or year group you approve will be able to benefit from access to local and national opportunities, regardless of their background, location or personal connections.

Because Youth Card will provide a common platform for your students to access work experience and career guidance, it can help support your organisation’s career education strategy and can help you to ensure that those with the highest need receive additional levels of support.

Can we still join Youth Card even if we do not choose to integrate our MIS data with Speakers for Schools?

If you choose not to integrate your MIS data with Speakers for Schools, then you would need to advise your students to go through a manual process to register. This means you will have little to no control over which students register and when.

Relying on students to individually register means that some may not ever complete the process and there is no way to easily monitor or manage the process, so it can not only take longer, but can also lead to more errors with data entry.

The other fundamental difference is that, if your school/college/university does not opt for MIS integration, we would have no means of identifying your higher need students to offer them additional levels of support.

What are the main advantages of MIS integration over a manual registration process?

MIS integration gives you total control over your data and offers a secure and safe way to efficiently on-board all – or just some of – your students with the minimum of hassle, giving you the ability to easily invite any or all your students to join Youth Card whilst also giving you complete peace of mind that your student data is fully protected.

Crucially, the MIS integration option also allows our charity to identify the students who qualify for additional levels of support. This means we can ensure that the students with the highest need always receive enhanced levels of support in the form of extra levels of exclusive discounts and opportunities.

Integrating your MIS will also allow our charity to report on student engagement with Youth Card, so that we can monitor and evaluate its impact.

How would your students’ data be used?

You can determine how much data is shared with Speakers for Schools as part of the MIS integration. Xporter support 20,000 schools in the UK and will provide a safe and secure interface for your school/college/university to share only the data sets that together we deem are most relevant.

Your students’ data will be used to enable us to filter opportunities according to student need, which could be linked to age, location, eligibility for free school meals or even SEND status.

Youth Card is transparent about its use of personal data, sensitive data and location data. Student personal data will never be shared outside of the Speakers for Schools organisation. Any data used to support Speakers for Schools’ charity work and/or shared externally will always be fully anonymised.

What student data would be shared outside of your organisation?

Youth Card is transparent about its use of personal data, sensitive data and location data. Student personal data will never be shared outside of the Speakers for Schools’ organisation. Any data used for research or reporting to support Speakers for Schools’ charity work and/or be shared externally will always be fully anonymised.

You can find definitions of what we mean by personal data, sensitive data and location data here:

Personal data

A student’s personal information – such as the student’s name, age and contact detail – is collected to help Speakers for Schools identify the student, so that the student can engage with our charity’s services and Speakers for Schools can contact them to keep them updated on any relevant new information. A student’s personal information is never shared outside of the Speakers for Schools organisation without the student’s consent.

Sensitive data

A student’s sensitive information – such as the student’s gender, ethnicity and postcode – is collected to help Speakers for Schools with our research and reporting. Any sensitive information used for these purposes will be fully anonymised. The student’s postcode may also be used by Speakers for Schools to tailor content and promote targeted opportunities based on the student’s profile.

Location data

A student’s location information – based on the location of the student’s registered mobile device – is collected by Speakers for Schools to tailor content and promote targeted opportunities based on the student’s profile. Speakers for Schools will always anonymise any location information before using the student’s data for any research and reporting.

How and what student data would be shared with partner organisations?

Youth Card is transparent about its use of personal data, sensitive data and location data. Student personal data will never be shared outside of the Speakers for Schools’ organisation. Any data used for research or reporting to support Speakers for Schools’ charity work and/or be shared externally will always be fully anonymised.

How can you ensure that our data is transferred securely to your charity?

Your school/college/university will not be asked to transfer any data directly to Speakers for Schools. You will use Xporter, a secure automated data delivery partner used by over 20,000 schools and 65 Local Authorities, to provide a secure interface.

If you choose to integrate your MIS with Speakers for Schools, you can proceed with confidence knowing that Xporter will handle your MIS data with the highest level of care.

Xporter are trusted to transfer data from over 5 million learners on a daily basis. Groupcall, the makers of Xporter, have been assessed and approved to meet the following ISO standards and guidelines: ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 27001:2013

These internationally recognised industry standards relate specifically to quality management and IT security.

What support would our school need to provide to implement this?

Your principal or a senior member of staff will be required to authorise MIS integration.

You will also need to nominate someone in your school/college/university to oversee the MIS integration process and act as the main point of contact for Xporter. This should be someone from your staff who is technically competent and is already familiar with your MIS and IT set up.

Are there any associated costs and/or overheads for our school/college/university or for parents for joining this initiative?

There is no charge to schools/colleges/universities for registering with Xporter or for using Xporter.

There is no charge to schools/colleges/universities or parents for registering with Speakers for Schools or registering their students with Youth Card. There is also no charge to schools/colleges/universities or parents for using any of our services, including Youth Card.
